Explore the Everyday, Embrace the Extraordinary
Kuldiha Widlife Sanctuary, located in Balasore, Odisha, is a stunning sanctuary known for its Mayurbhanj Elephant Reserve. Established in 1984, it spans 282 square kilometers and is connected to Simlipal National Park via the Sukhupada and Nato hill ranges. The sanctuary is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including wild cats, elephants, long-tailed monkeys, leopards, gaurs, and giant squirrels. The sanctuary features red earthen trails that make the journey through the dense and dark woods irresistible for nature lovers and jungle enthusiasts. The sanctuary has achieved its own glory, offering a unique experience for both nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
The Rissia Dam and Tenda Dam are popular attractions for wildlife lovers and bird watchers. The Tenda Dam and Garsimulia Watch Towers offer an elephant bath experience. However, they are typically closed during the peak monsoon season due to heavy rains and flooding. Visitors can spend a day exploring the forest, including nature walks, safaris, and wildlife encounters. The best time to visit is from November to March, as the sanctuary is closed from mid-June to October due to wildlife mating. For adventurists, the Jorachua Forest Rest House is the best option, with no electricity and trenches to prevent wild animal entry. Prior booking is required. Jeep driving in the dense jungles offers an unforgettable experience.

How to Reach
Explore wildlife : Plan, Pack, and embark on Adventure!
Start from either Balasore/Panchaligeswar, and spend one whole day within the forest. The journey within the forest will be adventouros and walk to waterfalls may lead to a sudden visit to tiger. The greenery will melt you if you are adventorous. Travellers can go for nature walk, safari or relax and enjoy the quietness of nature. Other attractions inside the jungle are also available.
Best time to visit is from Nov to March. The sanctuary is usually closed from mid-June till October, for it is the mating season for the wildlife inhabiting the jungle. If you are an adventurist, the best place to stay here is the Jorachua Forest Rest House lying deep inside the jungle. The FRH has no electricity except for a few solar lights and expects no mobile network. The rest house has trenches surrounding it to avoid the entry of wild animals that visit the borders of the campus regularly. Prior booking is a must. Jeep driving inside the dense jungles with eerie silence is one of the best experiences you can have.
Kuldiha Nature Camp Accommodation
Kuldiha Nature Camp, also known as Rissia Nature Camp at Gohirbola, is a tent-based accommodation option within the Kuldiha Sanctuary, operated by the Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC). The camp offers well-built tents with beds, tables, fans, and a main room; a small change room; and a clean bathroom. The camp is located in a large area within the forest, and the food is tasty and sufficient, including rice, dal, Karala & Brinjal fry, mix veg & fish curry, tea, and snacks. The camp offers a marvelous experience with fireflies, crickets, and owls, and dinner is served around 9 PM. Jungle entry tickets are extra chargeable.

Guide Charges: Rs.500 per car
Safari timings: 5 am–7 am. 4 pm–6:30 pm
Car entry permit charges: Rs. 200 per car.
Entry permits for cars are available at the gate of Kuldia Forest Range Office
or Balianal Forest Check Gate.
**Note : Timings, car permit charges, and guide charges may change according to season.

- Although the camp has all basic facilities, one must not expect luxury inside such deep forest. Mobile charging is available through USB cable connecting to a solar fan.
- The entire camp is run by solar power; hence, light inside the tent is not bright. Two fans are available inside, but I think during April-May the tents may get very hot inside.
- It is extremely cold during winter, and it is best to carry 1-2 shawls, as the blanket might not be sufficient.
- Urgent medicines, a torch, candles, and mosquito repellents must be carried. Although they give filtered water, it is best to carry mineral water or use Zeoline.
- If you are traveling with your own car, that may be risky because of no GPS tracking available due to network issues.
- No network connection inside the jungle. Travellers need to hire a vehicle (if not their own vehicle) from Balasore town or the railway station. Keep the vehicle till the travellers return to the city.
